We often think of health in terms of adding something. We need to add the right drug, or the right procedure, or the right vitamin, or the right herb or the right adjustment or whatever, and then we'll have health.
This is just as true of most alternative medicine as it is of traditional medicine. It is just a question of what needs to be added, or so it seems.
But the most prevalent diseases of our time are not diseases of something missing, but rather, diseases of excess. Heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, etc. are all diseases of excess.
Excess of what? Excess of fat, sugar, salt, protein, cholesterol, calories, refined products, additives, pesticides and so on. We're getting too much of things that are toxic to the body, or toxic in excess. Thus adding more of something, whether it's a drug or an herb or whatever, isn't getting at the cause of the problem.
These various excesses gradually build up the internal pollution of the body, both in various organ systems and within each of the 6 trillion individual cells. This internal pollution gradually impedes the functioning of those cells and those systems and that body.
An example might be anti-cholesterol drugs. They lower cholesterol, but since they are not getting at the root of the problem (the ingestion of too much fat and cholesterol in the diet), the underlying disease process continues while the symptom is masked. This does not lead to fundamental healing.
A more fundamental solution is to remove the excesses of fats, sugars, refinements, toxins and so on in the diet, and let the body restore itself through its own unmatched powers of detoxing and healing itself. This is getting at the cause of things rather than just working on symptoms.
