(This is Part 5 of a continuing series. Go back to Part 4.)

Below is a diet which will promote health, and not incidentally, also result in natural weight-loss. As the body gets healthier it will naturally balance your weight just as it balances many other things.

On this diet you'll lose weight if you're overweight and gain it if you're underweight—in either case going towards your natural weight. You won't even have to think about it; it'll happen naturally.

1) Have a large salad to begin every lunch and dinner. Raw greens are the most nutritious foods you can eat, and have the highest nutrient-to-calorie ratios of all foods. In addition, have any kind of dish of steamed or sauteed fresh vegetables.

2) Have as much fresh fruit as you like. Fruit was our natural diet for 50 million years, and the body is superbly adapted to it. Avoid fruit juice, a fractionated food, unless going on a juice fast to allow the body to cleanse itself.

3) Have unrefined starches such as brown rice, whole-grain bread or potatoes. Avoid processed starches such as white bread, white pasta or deep-fried chips, etc. Not all carbohydrates are the same; there's a world of difference between refined and unrefined starches. If you want to lose weight especially fast, avoid this item.

4) Have as much legumes as you like. Beans and other legumes supply high-quality protein and have a high nutrient-to-calorie ratio.

5) Have raw nuts and seeds if you like. This is particularly true if you're not eating legumes. Limit your intake to 1/3 cup per day.

6) Avoid all animal foods including dairy. In epidemiological studies these foods have been definitively linked to the development of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, arthritis and other degenerative diseases of modern times.

7) As much as possible, avoid foods that have been manufactured in a factory or are made from refined, processed or adulterated foods. Most foods in the supermarket fall into this category.

Summed up in one phrase, this can be called a fresh produce diet, a diet that can be eaten for life, that will dramatically increase your health and vitality, and automatically regulate your weight.
