Still there

A Zen master was once asked how one could be happy in this world when one's loved ones could get sick or die at any moment.

He replied that he had a glass on his mantle that he really appreciated. It helped him drink his water, his tea, etc.

And he knew that a wind could knock it off his mantle one day, or his elbow might accidentally knock it off or whatever. He knew it would be broken someday.

Because he knew the glass was already broken, every day he appreciated so much that it was still there.
